The Lamp as Collectible

Schonbek, maker of crystal chandeliers since 1870, began designing crystal table lamps in the year 2000. The collection has grown every year since.

“We looked around us,” said president & CEO Andrew Schonbek, “and saw that most table lamps were uninspired. Function drove appearance, and the results were unremarkable. We wondered what would happen if we brought as much creative energy to bear on lamp design as we do when designing crystal chandeliers.”

Every Schonbek lamp is an original. Our portfolio is constantly evolving, so we feel free to explore every look, from contemporary to traditional to purely whimsical.

Crystal is the common denominator, but our choice of crystal is anything but common. We work with fine Bohemian lead crystal vases, chunky glass rods, richly colored crystal ornaments and semi-precious quartzes. We take nothing for granted, carefully composing even the finial, which is often a mini crystal sculpture.

The lampshades are unique to Schonbek. We indulge in opulent and outré fabrics (always of impeccable quality). Shade shapes may be classic or capricious.

Lamps are not often thought to be life-changing, but a Schonbek crystal lamp may be just that. You may be tempted to redesign a room around it. You may get the impulse to throw out all your other lamps. You might even write your Schonbek lamp into your will, to keep heirs from fighting over it.

Each lamp carries the Schonbek hallmark. And often there’s a dimmer switch to help you orchestrate your quality of light.
