New crystal lamps exhibit a passionate palette of color
PLATTSBURGH, NY –-Schonbek continued to revolutionize lamp design this year with a new collection of color-rich crystal table lamps.
“Most lamps are mere accessories,” said President & CEO Andrew Schonbek. “We aspired to design table lamps with so much personality that people would be tempted to redecorate whole rooms around them. A total change of color scheme might suggest itself. Existing sofas and carpets might have to go.”
Lamp bodies are variously composed of handcut colored crystal urns, mouth blown handcut crystal globes, thick disks of gem-quality rock crystal and solid handcut chunks of faceted crystal in Jewel Tones™.
Shades are dramatic – a rich red bell clover shade in cut velvet, a turquoise exotic Dupioni silk shade with blue soutache, a dark ruby shade with gold and olive embroidery, a seemingly neutral shade with a secret design that appears only when the lamp is lit – to mention a few examples.
Scrollwork is often whimsical, with antiqued and hand-rubbed finishes. The finials topping the lamps are noteworthy designs in their own right, often miniature sculptures of crystal in luscious colors and fanciful configurations.
The new lamps range from diminutive to stately, as small as 20 1/2 inches and as tall as 29 inches. Most come with a built-in dimmer switch.
